fire department emblem signs look great on 17 spokane stations, custom acm aluminum signsNew Fire Department Emblem Signs create consistency among 17 Spokane Fire Department stations.  These four and a half foot emblems create uniformity and unique “branding” for the fire stations.

This is a large project that has taken many months to come to fruition.  With the different locations involved, as well as funding and approvals, it just takes time.  But the biggest challenge, according to Signs for Success designer Julie Dean, was getting the color just right.

“Having to match the gold and the red was a really great feat to accomplish—not only to get the red right, but to make that gold look like the gold emblem,” Julie said.  Their vehicle decals have real 22K gold in the vinyl.  This makes it more challenging to find a perfect match.

Perfect Color and Placement

After a bit of testing, however, we found that printing onto vinyl using our solvent printer achieved the best color.  “Printed high performance vinyl got the best color; it was perfect,” Julie said.  “They took the sample around the station and were really happy with it.”  An added bonus of printing to vinyl, rather than directly to the surface, is the ability to add bleed to the print.  This in turn allows perfect edge to edge placement on the unique emblem shape.

There are a lot of outdoor durable sign materials that could work for this project. After discussing the options, we decided on 3mm ACM (aluminum composite material).  “ACM is two thin alumDimensional Emblem Signinum panels sandwiching a plastic core,” Julie explained.  “Durability is extreme, but the expense is moderate” when compared to a thicker material or solid aluminum.

Each sign is mounted with black standoffs and decorative knobs on the face that are tamper-proof.  “They are offset from the brick of the building just a little bit, and we were able to shape cut their shield, which gives extraordinary dimension,” Julie said.

At present, we have 9 Fire Department emblem signs installed, and over the next couple of months we will be doing the other 8 locations, one of them the training station. The remaining eight buildings will take a little longer because they’re not prototypical.  Since each building is different, sign placement has to be evaluated and approved.

“I can’t tell you just how thankful we are that you helped us ‘brand’ the fire department,” Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said.  “The finished products [are] amazing!”

church signs building signs spokane True Hope Church recently acquired the Lincoln Center, and they are planning a large renovation in the summer of 2018.  But until then, they need directional church signs to help people get to the auditorium, classes, and restrooms.

“It was a good, inexpensive way to get the signs they needed, to last the six months or so until the renovation,” Signs for Success designer Jamie Wood said.  “They wanted temporary signage that was inexpensive but still looks nice.”

way finding signs for True Hope Church in SpokaneThere were some existing signs in the building that we were able to reuse by turning them over and putting cut vinyl on the back, then rehanging.  Other signs were printed on foam core, an inexpensive material that is great for indoor signs.  Foam core has a smooth paper surface, but, like its name, it has a foam “core” that makes the product rigid.  By printing white lettering on a dark grey background, we were able to match the existing signs for a unified look throughout the building.

“They have a pretty specific branding look, so we stuck with that,” Jamie explained.  “We had their logo watermarked in the background with all the information.”

dimensional letters on wood plank wall custom signs by Signs for SuccessAside from the directional signs, there was another aspect of this project that is meant to be long-term.  “True Hope Kids” in large dimensional letters is located on a wall that will not be affected by the renovation.  Not worried about replacing this wall sign any time soon, the customer chose to create bold letters that are stud mounted to a wall of planked wood.  The glossy white acrylic contrasts against the natural wood planks, and mounted about ¾” off the wall, it looks amazing.

Wire Standoff System Creates Modern Wall Display

wire standoff system on custom wall display for SNAP spokaneA unique wall display on a wire standoff system was the perfect solution for SNAP in Spokane a few years ago.  It was so well received that they came back for a similar display dubbed the “Gold Club Wall,” wires and all.

“Back in 2014, we worked on a donor wall that was on wire cabling and standoffs.  It turned out beautifully. When Jennifer Martin was ready to have another wall done, they reached out to us to help with production and installation,” Signs for Success designer Vanessa Bogensberger said.

“We have a similar display that Signs for Success did for SNAP’s Capital Campaign.  We wanted to keep the same design since the Gold Club wall is on a wall near the other display,” Jennifer Martin of SNAP Spokane explained.  Donations go towards their mission of providing opportunities for people in need.

Signs for Success designer Jamie Wood took the provided photos and content and laid out a similar wall with photos juxtaposed with sponsor panels.  The donor names are applied as needed with cut vinyl lettering onto brushed gold ACM (aluminum composite material) panels.  The display is installed on a wire standoff system using cables and standoff mounts.  The look is modern and industrial while creating a dimensional look.

“It’s a great example of environmental graphics adding to the pleasing atmosphere of their offices,” Vanessa said.  Environmental graphics are graphics that improve the visual environment and enhance a person’s experience.  The new wall display fills a blank space with uplifting content, visually showing SNAP’s progression towards a goal.  Donor walls like this one can boost morale, and even performance, as they encourage the individual to work toward a collective goal.  It’s also visually appealing with its clean, modern  design.

“We are very pleased with the final product,” Jennifer said.  “It really brightens up the hallway and everyone notices it immediately.”

Changeable Way Finding Signs at VA Hospital

way finding signs building sign at VA HospitalThe Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center is using new way finding signs to direct people from their cars to the different buildings.  The updated signs help people feel comfortable and confident finding the correct building or office.  They also allow signs to be changed out easily in the event a clinic or doctor moves locations within the campus.

The Mann-Grandstaff VAMC and its clinics serve more than 30,000 Veterans annually throughout Central and Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho and Northwestern Montana.

“The campus is large enough now that people can get lost.  They needed way finding signs with replaceable, changeable sections of the sign,” Signs for Success sales specialist Julie Dean said.  “The new signs allow for removability.  If a general practice doctor moves, or the senior living center moves to another building, they can move that piece from one sign to another.”

The signs are uniform in appearance and easy to find and read.  Each partition is made of aluminum composite material (ACM).  The 48” wide signs have long-term, high performance vinyl with cut vinyl reflective lettering and directional arrow.  “They also wanted to update their colors; all the exteriors are changing from brown to sapphire blue.  The color is permeated into the vinyl which makes it extremely fade resistant.  The reflective white lettering on top gives it a nice pop,” Julie said.  The post signs match the sapphire blue building signs, making finding the right building a cinch.

way finding signs installed at Mann-Grandstaff VAMCEach aluminum post is secured onto a steel plate, bolted into concrete footings.  If the sign is ever hit, the aluminum posts can be replaced without having to re-dig the footings.  This type of sign is great for high traffic areas, and they even withstood two hurricanes in Florida in 2017.

There were several key factors the Mann-Grandstaff VAMC needed to cover, including changeability and durability.  We took the time to listen to the customer’s needs and find the best option.  “We will take the time necessary to research fabricators to adapt to the needs of your company or industry for the length of time you need them,” Julie said.  “These signs will last 20+ years, and they can keep interchanging partitions.”
