indoor wall murals add interest to the Avista Jimmy Dean Center in Spokane

Custom Facility Signs for Avista’s Jimmy Dean Center

Illuminated channel letterset, custom channel letters for AvistaAvista Corp., the Spokane-based energy company, needed custom facility signs with consistent branding for their new maintenance and repair facility. Officially named the “Jimmy Dean Center,” it includes a 15,100 square foot maintenance building and adjacent compressed natural gas fueling station. The Jimmy Dean Center is named for a gas line worker who died while responding to an outage after hours in the winter of 1996.

As with any large facility, signs are needed throughout to inform and direct. New signs at the Jimmy Dean Center include:

  1. An Acrylic Lobby Sign
  2. Illuminated Channel Letterset for the outside of the building
  3. Large Etchmark letter “G” on entry glass
  4. Outdoor Aluminum and Acrylic Facility Entrance Sign
  5. Directional Signs, and
  6. A Series of Indoor Wall Murals

  1. The logo lobby sign was created with three different layers on cut acrylic. The first surface is white cut vinyl with the Avista logo. The second surface is etchmark vinyl gives the look of frosted glass, custom facility signsEtchmark vinyl, a translucent film that gives the look of “etched” or frosted glass. Finally, the Etchmark vinyl is backed with a medium gray film.  “Two second surface layers gives it a unique aesthetic,” Signs for Success’ Bryce Morrison said. The dimensional look is enhanced with ¾-inch brushed silver standoffs.

2. On the outside of the building, you are greeted by a custom illuminated channel letterset. By adding blue vinyl and reverse weeding to create the white negative space, we were able to perfectly match their logo.

The graphics cover several sections of glass over approximately 11 square feet.  Avery Etchmark film adds a little privacy and the upscale look of sandblasted glass.

4. The Facility Entrance Sign uses an aluminum cabinet painted blue to match Avista’s branding. “Jimmy Dean Center” is cut from the aluminum face, with half inch white acrylic letters pushed through. The acrylic is illuminated, and creates an overall simple and modern entrance sign.

Each sign is printed on ACM (Aluminum Composite Material) and laminated for added durability.  They are a combination of single and double sided signs, either 24” square or 18” square, and all county compliant.

6. Finally, a series of wall murals adds interest to the interior of the facility.  We installed over 100 linear feet of historical Avista photos and local history. A wall mural “offers great interior graphic options, brings the building’s character to life, and unifies all spaces,” Bryce explained.

Lightweight Event Signs

FoamCore Sponsor Sign

Foam Core Sponsor Event Sign

Foam core is a great sign material for temporary indoor event signs.  Its clean lines and smooth matte finish offer high quality prints in vibrant color.  In addition, foam core is lightweight, making it easy to transport to an event site and set up.  For most foam core event signs, we add a stand to make a free-standing sign.  These “standees” can be either rectangular or shape cut.

Foam Core Event Signs are great for:

  • Trade shows
  • Fundraisers
  • Sponsor recognition
  • Goal thermometers
  • Auctions, and more!

This event sign was printed on a full sheet of 4×8 foam core and made into a standee for the 2nd Harvest “Taking a Bite Out of Hunger” event.  The graphics recognize sponsors whose donations make 2nd Harvest’s mission possible.  With sponsor support, 2nd Harvest is able to distribute free food to fight hunger in Spokane and the Inland Northwest.

Custom Shaped Powder Coated Town Sign

Town Sign for Senior Class Gift

Custom Routed Town SignA welcoming Town Sign is a lovely addition to any town, big or small.  Rosalia High School’s senior class sponsored beautiful new “Welcome to Rosalia” signs to give back to their town.  Signs for Success designer Vanessa Bogensberger brainstormed with Sean Moss from Rosalia School District to come up with the town sign design.  The result is a modern design with durable finishes that will look great for many years.

Design

“He wanted a double layer, cut out (like a stencil) metal sign face,” Vanessa explained.  Laser cut or stencil cut metal signs are smooth with a clean, modern look.  “The sign face was shape cut and the design cut out of it, then it was powder-coated flint gray.  The posts and solid, shaped backer panel were powder-coated black.”

Materials & Installation

Custom Shaped Powder Coated Town SignThe welcome signs are 3/8” aluminum, ideal for long- to permanent-use signs.  Aluminum is strong and weather resistant, and

powder-coating will also last many years.  The signs are installed with concrete footings and solar front lighting.

Customize your town sign with:

    • Shape cutting
    • Laser cut design
    • Special lighting
    • Mascot, or Local attraction(s)

Rosalia High School raised over 50% in donations and partnered with the Town of Rosalia to get these great signs done.  We were honored to be a part of it.  Signs for Success is a locally owned family business in Spokane, and we strive for excellent customer service, perfect color, and quick turnaround on every project.  Our large production facility allows us to design, print and install everything in-house.  Get quality service and a quick turnaround on a Town Sign; contact us for a free quote today!

Digitally Printed Backlit Signs in Three Easy Steps

Digitally Printed Backlit Sign test

Signs for Success triple strike backlit sign test

Digitally printed backlit signs are extremely effective,

working double shifts day and night, but if the sign is not printed well, it may look too dark during the day or faint and washed out at night.  Traditionally, backlit signs required single-color translucent vinyl cut into letters or shapes to be viewable both day and night.  However, with these 3 Steps, it is possible to get custom full color backlit signs that show well 24/7.

Lexan is the best material for digitally printed backlit signs.  It’s translucent, cut to size so it perfectly fits your sign cabinet, and it’s practically indestructible.  Other sign materials may get brittle in very cold climates, but Lexan is weather-proof as well as fire-proof and shatter-proof.  When we manufacture backlit sign faces, we start with a custom-cut piece of Lexan.

Step 1: First, we run the sheet of Lexan through our large format HP FB500 Flatbed Printer, which can handle material up to 64″ wide.  On the first run, the sign receives full color graphics.  The UV curable ink dries immediately as the UV lights just beyond the print heads hit the print.  It’s as easy as that, and you’re ready for Step 2.

Step 2: The Lexan sign can be loaded immediately back into the printer for the second run.  This time, a layer of 50% opacity white ink is printed over the image.  This may seem counterintuitive for the moment as the beautiful full color graphics get covered up, but bear with us, the third step will explain everything.

Digitally Printed Backlit sign at Night

Spokane First backlit sign

Step 3: As the Lexan runs through the printer to receive white ink, another layer of full color is laid on top.  This creates a total of three layers of ink: color-white-color.  These 3 Steps are what we call “Triple Strike” technique.  After much testing, we found this to be the best combination of layering inks to achieve perfect color in digitally printed backlit signs both day and night.

Here’s why: when light is shone on the front (as it would outside in daylight), the image in full color is vibrant and clear.  The white layer in between blocks the bottom layer from showing through.  However, when sign panel is illuminated from behind (as it would be at night when backlighting is turned on), all layers of ink are illuminated.  This produces a heavier concentration of ink since there were two layers of full color, which makes the image properly saturated and still vibrant rather than washed out.

While the sign could be installed after these 3 steps and have 3-5 years of outdoor durability, we highly recommend laminating the image to add additional years of life.  If it’s time to trade out your old, faded, or traditional outdoor sign for a vibrant backlit sign, the Signs for Success team is ready to transform your outdoor sign into something truly memorable!  Call or email us for more information on our triple strike backlit signs.

Commercial Real Estate Site Sign

Commercial Real Estate Signs in Spokane: Panel Signs and more

Commercial Real Estate Site Sign - Real Estate SignsReal estate signs come in several shapes and sizes.  We print many types of realtor signs each year, from yard signs and sign riders to large post and panel site signs.  Whether you need real estate signs for residential or a large commercial site sign, we can get custom signs designed, printed and installed on site quickly.  These digitally printed “For Sale” signs advertise a commercial real estate property in Spokane for Windermere.

“We used a simple red, white and blue design to have nice effect and great visibility. The customer provided a rough sketch of content and we gave him a couple of options for design,” Signs for Success designer Vanessa Bogensberger said.  Sign content includes type of building and building stats, contact information, and of course, a large and bold “For Sale.”

We printed the chosen sign graphics onto two sheets of 4’x8’ Aluwell Aluminum Composite Material (ACM).  Aluwell panels are made of two pre-painted sheets of .008 aluminum with a solid polyethylene core.  Aluwell is a durable and weather-resistant sign substrate that is great for large outdoor signs.  The signs were then installed on site by the customer’s installer onto posts in a “V” shape.

The customer was pleased with the result.  “I have been using Signs for Success since about 2005. They have great quality and service.  Being local, they understand our “Spokane needs,” and they stand behind their work.  Whenever I need a sign, they are who I call,” Windermere’s Jerry VanHook said.

In addition to large real estate panel signs, we also stock real estate sign posts for smaller “for sale” signs and sign riders.  Signs for Success is a locally owned family business in Spokane, and we strive for excellent customer service, perfect color, and quick turnaround on every project.  Our large production facility allows us to design, print and install everything in-house.  Get quality service and a quick turnaround on real estate sign posts Spokane; contact us for a free quote today!

3 Contractor Advertising Ideas – Vehicle Wraps and more

Mr. Rooter Truck Wrap designed, printed and installed at Signs for Success

Contractors starting up a new business, or just trying to revamp an existing one, should consider their brand positioning.  Whether the business is multi-tier or just a one-person contractor, building a brand goes hand in hand with gaining customers and building a local customer base.

Contractors can find their brand identity by cueing in on anything that defines their company, including products, services, warranties, guarantees, customer service, and ideals.  What can your business offer that others in the area cannot?  What is the customer perception on your product or service?  Once you’ve identified your branding strategy, you’re ready to market it.

There are many ways to advertise your business, but the key is to keep branding consistent no matter what type of marketing or signage you choose to use.  Just one slogan rather than several and the same colors and logos throughout is a must.  These are the three most essential contractor advertising ideas we recommend:

  1. Promotional Products

Contractor promotional products keep advertising for as long as they are useful, which means up to years of promotion.  Nifty items like pens, notepads, Nalgene water bottles, and Frisbees are just a few examples of promotional products customers will come back to again and again.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing’s clever toilet paper promotional item will not be soon forgotten by its users.

In addition to fun and creative promo items that might be specific to your industry, for any type of contractor, we recommend refrigerator magnets.  Whenever you service someone’s home, before you leave, stick your magnet on their fridge with a couple of business cards and a brochure listing all your services.  They’ll know just who to call next time, and they’ll have quick access to your number if they want to recommend you to someone else. Your Signs for Success account representative can help you with selection and pricing or you can browse anytime at our Promotional Products Store.

  1. Professional Business Cards

Business cards are like promotional products – they are the traditional leave-behind tool that many customers have come to expect.  Many people keep them on hand for future reference.  Make your card easily recognizable by keeping colors and graphics consistent with your contractor business branding.  Give a few cards to happy customers so they can pass them on.

  1. Vehicle Wraps

Dodge Ram Vinyl graphics

Prime Pest Control Truck Graphics

You’ve invested in service vehicles, now use them!  A truck wrap for your work truck(s) or van fleet wraps are a great use of space you already own.  All that is required is a one-time investment for a wrap that will last 5-7 years.  According to research, just the fact that your signs are on your vehicle rather than a board or post in the ground generates more interest and recall rate among viewers, and vehicle wraps can generate up to 70,000 impressions per day!  To top off your truck wrap or van wrap, consider business card holders that can be directly attached to either side of the vehicle.  Potential customers can lift the top and take a business card with them.

These 3 contractor advertising ideas will work together to create a positive lasting impression with your target audience.  Let us help you create promotional items, business cards, and vehicle wraps to build your brand and your customer base.  Signs for Success is a locally owned family business in Spokane, and we strive for excellent customer service, perfect color, and quick turnaround on every project.  Our large production facility allows us to design, print and install everything in-house.  Get quality service and a quick turnaround on your contractor signs; contact us for a free quote today!

Foam Board Printing is popular for creating anything from custom posters to unique framed wall art.  Foam board is made with a polystyrene foam core and a smooth white paper backing on either side.  We carry 4’ x 8’ sheets of foam board that can be custom cut to any dimensions or shape.  For example, we can cut out a custom standee whether you need a tabletop display or a life sized display.  For extra-large prints, we can print and install several foam board sheets for a seamless wall display.

This kiosk is decorated with full sized animal standee cutouts that are free standing as well as a folding informational "poster" standee on the table, foam board printing

Animal Shelter standees and table top display

Foam board printing is cost-effective, and the result is a professional, vibrant, full color image for your custom indoor display.

Foam board can be used for temporary signs, seasonal signs, or permanent indoor signs.  The outer paper covering may bend or dent with force, so with permanent displays and artwork, it’s best to either frame them or place them high up out of the way of traffic and accidental bumps.  For temporary signs and prints, foam board printing is great for posters, trade show displays, retail signs, POP signs, window displays, and more!

A few alternatives to foam board printing are:

  • Corrugated Plastic Signs and Standees
  • Paper Posters and Sign Inserts
  • Banner Stands
  • Acrylic Lobby Signs

No matter what your project is, we have a great sign solution for you.  Our experienced, in-house design team will work with you on design, materials and installation methods to make sure you are getting exactly the sign or display you are envisioning.
