One very important key to successful printing on wood is white ink.  When working with non-white surfaces, we print a layer of white ink before printing the actual graphics.  For the Dry Fly Vodka box project, we printed a red logo onto unfinished cedar wood.  Printing red ink directly to the wood produces a faint logo that lacks the necessary contrast between the logo and background, but by simply adding white ink beneath the red, the logo really pops.

We did several wood wall art test prints with various white ink opacities as well as highlighting and distressing to show what is possible when printing to wood.  A lower opacity will give a more faded look while 100% opacity presents bright color, just as it would appear on any other white surface.  We can print to customer-provided materials as well as the wood slats we stock.

The donor signs were mounted to a slat-wood wall in the 2nd Harvest Kitchen.  Clean and modern against warm and a bit rustic makes for a very attractive sponsor wall.

Another tempered glass sign nearby in the Kitchen Addition was backed with dusted crystal vinyl.  The vinyl backing gives the look of sandblasted glass, and it also helps soften the shadow cast by the signs.

Sun Tracker Pontoon Boat Wrap 3MWith warmer weather approaching, we are working on boat wraps once again!  This pontoon boat wrap is part of a larger boat makeover by Manny and Maria Homen of Mild to Wild Upholstery.

The pontoon boat wrap design is simple, but impactful.  It includes the Sun Tracker logo, updated striping and a hot red color that gives the boat a whole new look.  And that’s not all that’s new.  The boat owner, Manny Homen, is also the owner of Mild to Wild Upholstery.  He had just finished work re-upholstering the whole boat as well as adding new flooring to the deck.  “Manny…trusted us to add some of the finishing touches,” Signs for Success owner John Bogensberger wrote on Facebook.  “Tomorrow it goes to the sound shop and then it’s off to the lake.”

After sitting down with a customer and talking about design and other elements, we put together a custom wrap design.  We have a climate controlled install facility on site that can handle large vehicles, including a pontoon boat.  This was an important detail after all the new upholstery work that was done.  Boat wraps are printed on 3M high performance wrap film.  Laminated high performance vinyl will withstand weather, lake water, cleaning chemicals, and anything else this pontoon boat will encounter.
