Riverfront Park Welcome Banner

Banners are versatile, and by considering the different materials you can print on, in reality, you can use a custom banner for almost any project.  We have tested a variety of materials to print on, each giving a different vibe.  Your banner can be as fancy or informal as the occasion dictates.

Here are some of our most popular custom banner materials:

  • 13oz vinyl
  • Super Smooth
  • Blockout Vinyl
  • Mesh
  • Canvas and other printed fabrics

Vinyl is the standard banner material, and it makes up about 95% of what we produce.  We print directly to the vinyl with photo quality results.  13oz is the most common weight vinyl material, and it can be used for both indoor and outdoor banners, including street banners, pole banners, sports banners, tradeshow banners and more!

Large fence and wall banners for 2nd Harvest

Super Smooth vinyl material has anti-curl edges that do not need to be hemmed.  This material is used in retractable banners because the clean, strong finished edge never curls when the banner is displayed.  Retractable banners expand your tradeshow display, and they are easy to pack and transport.  They also look great in retail stores, doctor’s offices and lobbies.

Blockout vinyl material is a heavy duty 18oz vinyl.  It’s perfect for double sided pole banners and street banners that may take a lot of beating.  Light is blocked so the image on the opposite side does not show through on double sided banners.  Use blockout vinyl for any outdoor banners, and you won’t regret it!

When Contract Design Associates in Spokane needed desk separation without blocking all the light, we used these mesh banners, double sided to create a great backdrop wall

Mesh material can be used outdoors in high wind, allowing wind to pass through without blowing out the banner.  Mesh is also useful when you would like some visibility and/or light to pass through your banner.  We’ve seen mesh material used for custom printed window shades as well as office partitions.  Even if you wouldn’t necessarily call it a “banner,” mesh can bring custom printed graphics into a very modern or professional atmosphere.

Finally, there are a variety of fabrics we can print your custom artwork on.  Canvas is a popular choice because it is thick and durable.  We can also print on linen, poplin, pack cloth, and upholstery vinyl.  One customer chose to print their indoor banner on canvas for the warm, inviting feeling it brought to the cozy coffee shop atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a way to customize your business, office, street or showroom, consider a custom banner.  With all the materials available, we can customize your graphics to fit the space and mood you’re going for.  Signs for Success is a locally owned family business in Spokane, and we strive for excellent customer service, perfect color, and quick turnaround on every project.  Our innovative team can tackle any sign project, and we will offer our expertise in every stage of the process, from design to print to installation.  Get quality service and a quick turnaround on your next banner project; contact us for a free quote today!

Fire Station gets new Acrylic Dimensional Letters

Spokane County Fire District 8 wanted large metal aluminum dimensional letters for their headquarters, Signs for Success helped them fast, call now, dimensional letters spokane valley

Fire District 8 metal dimensional letters

This past month we had the opportunity to work with the fine folks at Spokane County Fire District 8 Headquarters. They needed larger identification on the front of their fire station and new identification for their entrances at the office and training facility.  The headquarters is a training facility as well as a fire engine house—they get a lot of visitors and because of its somewhat remote location, the station required better identification and larger outdoor signs.  Signs for Success installed laser cut acrylic dimensional letters Spokane Valley onto the brick facade.  The letters have stud mounts on the back so they stick out ½ inch from the wall, adding dimension and a natural cast shadow.  The firefighters and staff love the new look.

Ceiling Graphics: Ceiling decals vs. printed ceiling tiles

Unique advertising opportunity for restaurants, offices, medical office with graphics or logos or photos printed directly to acoustical ceiling tiles, Give us a call now for fast sign service in Spokane, ceiling graphics

Custom printed ceiling tiles

With a few test runs of printed ceiling tiles under our belt, we decided to take the next step and print a full image over the approximately 30 ceiling tiles in our break room.  After bringing down each ceiling tile one by one and running it through our HP FB500 printer, each tile was repositioned in its respective place, creating one big picture.  The image we decided on was a full cityscape with tall buildings rising into a blue sky.

Some of the tiles were used for color testing, and a few new ceiling tiles replaced the ones that were eventually discarded in testing.  Having worked with both new and existing tiles, Signs for Success production specialist Rich Wilke noted that using new tiles to print ceiling graphics was a much better option.  “The old tiles had dust settled into them, and after running them through the printer, I had to spend a few extra hours cleaning out the machine.  Working with new tiles was much easier.”

What makes a good ceiling graphic?

Before searching for a good image for ceiling graphics, you should first map out the area to be filled.  If, for example, you are working with a long narrow space, you’ll need to find an image that fits that space.  A panoramic image might be just the thing.  Similarly, “you wouldn’t print the Sistine Chapel in a square room because the Sistine Chapel is a big rectangle,” Signs for Success designer Will Oakley explained.  Also, take note of irregular curves or corners and how that will cut into an image.

You may also want to think about perspective.  When we set out to find an image for our break room ceiling, we knew we wanted an image that gave a 3D effect.  The cityscape was perfect with tall buildings and sky scrapers all around; it gives you the feeling of standing in the middle of a city.  Finally, be sure your image is high-resolution, or can be purchased in a high-resolution format.  This is extremely important in getting a clear image over a large space such as a ceiling.

Ceiling Decals

So far, we’ve focused on printing ceiling tiles.  If you don’t have ceiling tiles, or want a less permanent option, ceiling decals are perfect.  Ceiling decals work on any surface, from smooth to highly textured.  They can be custom sized large or small and even shape cut.  Our PT Changeable material allows the decal to be adhered firmly to most smooth surfaces, then pulled off and re-applied elsewhere without any loss of adhesion.  If you don’t plan on changing the placement of the decal often, we have several other vinyl decal options that will work on flat or even textured ceiling surfaces.  Even wallpaper can be custom printed and applied to the ceiling to give a unique textured look, like at this rest stop in Cusick (left).

Why ceiling graphics?

Ceiling graphics are great for a dentist’s or chiropractic’s office – anywhere people spend a lot of time on their backs.  Pictures and even text on the ceiling keeps people entertained, can be used as a conversation starter, or just add character to an otherwise bland space.  The ceiling may also be useful advertising space.  Ceilings are underused spaces that demand attention.  Print specials on individual tiles or decals and change them out periodically; the ceiling will become a place people always look.  Contact Signs for Success for a free quote on custom ceiling graphics.

Why Use Vinyl Banners Spokane?

World Cup Wrestling banner

In the past, banners may have been boring and bland because they have been seen as temporary signs – either for short-term promotions, or to be replaced as soon as possible with the “real” sign.  With the introduction of large format digital printing, however, vinyl banners can be printed in full color and at a very reasonable price.

Vinyl banners Spokane are great for:

  • Sponsor banners
  • Grand Opening or Re-Opening banners
  • Seasonal Sales
  • Special Events
  • Tradeshow Displays
  • Graduations, birthdays and other celebrations
  • Sporting Events
  • Community Events
  • School Sponsorships
  • Golf Tournaments

Banners for outdoor use are printed on heavy duty, tear-resistant scrim vinyl.  The edges are hemmed and grommeted for additional strength and longevity.  Signs for Success uses a vinyl welder to fuse the material at the edges creating a stronger hem than traditional sewn seams.  An additional benefit to this method is there is no visible stitching in the face of the digital print, creating a more aesthetically pleasing finished product.

Vinyl banners can be tied down or screwed down, and will last for years without fading or tearing, depending on weather conditions. The banner can also be mounted by the use of “pole pockets” instead. This way they are mounted on poles at either the sides or top and bottom. The poles can be part of a mounting bracket arrangement, or, if it’s made of wood or plastic, can be screwed directly to a wooden surface, like a wall or fence.

Our banners are printed on smooth vinyl material with UV curable inks which are scratch and UV resistant.  It’s important to note that banners printed with dye-based or pigment-based inks will fade very quickly in bright light.  Our vinyl banners are also extremely durable and water resistant.  Banners should be rolled and stored in a cool dry place when not in use.  If cared for properly, your banner will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Vinyl banners Spokane are ideal for many tradeshow applications. Since they are lightweight and very flexible, they can be easily rolled and unrolled for shipping and setup.  Banners can be hung above the display or used as signage for the front of your display table.

4 Things We Love about Color Change Wraps

Avery color change car wrap vinyl, very small printed background to change this bug to hot pink, by Signs for Success, Spokane, color change wrap

Color change car wrap vinyl in hot pink

All our color change wraps are done with Avery Supreme Wrapping Film, and we stock several colors including Matte Black vinyl.  We love Avery’s color change wrap film for several reasons, including how great it looks when it’s installed on a vehicle.  These four reasons sum up why color change wraps are also incredibly easy to install with Avery’s color change wrap film.

  1. Avery color change car wrap vinyl

    Avery color change wrap vinyl

It’s thin. Avery Supreme Wrapping Film is thinner than many other high-performance vinyl films, so we can use less heat when installing it.  “Using less heat prevents over-stretching of the film, which compromises the adhesive.  The adhesive doesn’t get as good contact with the vehicle, and it can also create visual defects in the vinyl,” Signs for Success certified installer Chris Komski explained.

  2. It comes pre-laminated. Lamination protects the color from UV ray and other wear and tear which can cause fading over time. “It’s already laminated so that saves us time,” Chris noted.  As with any business, time is money.
  3. Air-release channels make install easy. On the back of the vinyl, you can see tiny little hexagons whose outlines form air-release channels throughout the material.  During installation, smoothing the vinyl out over contours is simple because “you can push any air bubbles out through the network of channels,” Rich said. Most other wrap vinyl requires smoothing carefully over the vinyl several times before all the air bubbles can be pushed out the edges of the material.
  4. Matte black truck wrap color change installed at Signs for Success

Matte black truck wrap color change installed at Signs for Success. The installer uses a squeegee to smooth out air bubbles.

Finally, it’s less aggressive, “aggressive” meaning how tacky the vinyl adhesive is. Less aggressive adhesive makes installation much easier since material can be repositioned if necessary throughout the process. Post heating the material once the placement is perfect ensures a permanent hold.  When installing the matte black vinyl for John’s truck wrap, “we exposed the whole back and were able to move it around to adjust the placement.  With [other car wrap vinyls], we wouldn’t have been able to do that,” Chris explained.

Avery’s wrapping film is a high-quality and install-friendly vinyl to work with, and we are excited to continue using it.  Contact us for more information on color change wraps, or to get a free quote on a color change wrap Spokane!

Discount Fireworks Stand Container Wrap

We designed, printed, and wrapped this shipping container for Discount Fireworks, Oroville, WA in Spokane, container wrap

Shipping Container Wrap for Discount Fireworks, Oroville, WA

When we wrapped a giant 40-foot metal container, what was the biggest challenge we faced?  It wasn’t the sheer size of the vinyl wrap, the long hours of labor involved, or a question of where we could possibly store it during installation, though that was a question on all our minds.  In the end, the biggest challenge to installing this container wrap was the surface texture of the corrugated container.

Both the designer and the installers agreed the corrugations that covered the giant metal shipping container on all sides proved a formidable opponent.  The sides had shallow, beveled grooves, and the front and back ends had deep 90-degree angled corrugations.  In the design phase, designer Vanessa Bogensberger had to consider how much of the image would be hidden in the corrugations, and how much, if any, material would have to be added on top of the actual width.  The corrugations on each side of the container were shallow enough that the material could be laid flat, heated, then stretched into the grooves.  When it came to the ends, however, the material would have failed if we tried to lay it flat and stretch it.  The graphics were prepared in the design phase with a cushion of 40% more material over the actual width of each end, and our installers tucked material into the 90-degree grooves as they went.

“It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever installed.  I’ve installed large panels before, but nothing like all four sides of a 40-foot container,” Signs for Success installer Rich Wilke said.  “We spent three full days on that sucker, and it turned out very, very cool.”  The installers agreed the most difficult part of the container wrap was heating and rolling the material into each corrugation.

Luckily, the fireworks graphics did not suffer from stretching, but had it been a logo, “it would have been almost impossible,” Vanessa said.  When working with such a large format, high quality images are key.  “We can proof with low-resolution images before purchasing an image to make sure the customer buys into the concept, but we’ve got to have high-resolution images for large-format printing,” Vanessa explained.  “Jack owns his images already, so that wasn’t a problem.”  When I talked to owner Jack Hughes about the finished product, he said, “It really catches your eye.  People drive by the warehouse and they comment on the stand out there.  The big explosions and big round logo really catch your eye.  Everybody really likes it.”

Wetland Camo Vinyl Boat Wrap

this non-repeating camouflage wrap was printed and cut out then applied just above water line for a unique camo wrap on this black boat in Spokane, camo vinyl boat wrap

Black boat with non-repeating camo wrap

Boats are usually used for recreation and relaxation, so a boat wrap doesn’t have to be serious – it can be unique and fun.  It doesn’t have to carry a message or have a measurable business objective (although it certainly can).  It can be an inside joke or an expression of the owner like a favorite color, symbol or sports team.  Mike Sullivan of United Roofing chose to go with a wetland camo boat wrap.

We get a lot of requests for camo vehicle wraps and camo boat wraps, but what made this job unique was the custom shape of the vinyl boat wrap.  “We used our standard wetland camo pattern, but I made the pattern look like blades of grass to give it a custom feel,” Signs for Success designer Will Oakley said.  The camo blades against the black background really pop, and give this formerly red and black boat a modern look.”

Our custom boat wraps are printed on high performance vinyl and laminated for extra protection.  Our certified installers carefully apply the wrap to produce a seamless, painted-on look.  Before applying this wetland camo vinyl boat wrap, our installers had to strip off all the existing decals and logos.  Left with a clean slate, the wrap was applied to the sides of the boat quickly and easily. The non-repeating camouflage wrap was applied just above water line for a clever and unique look.  The customer was pleased with the new look of his boat and can’t wait to take it out on the water!  Contact Signs for Success for your free camo vinyl boat wrap quote!

Vinyl Decals Hillyard Customize Restored Fire Truck

Restored fire truck with custom reflective vinyl decals, vinyl decals HIllyard

Restored fire truck with custom reflective vinyl decals

Scott Cosner is a proud Hillyard native, and he is showing his pride through a restored Hillyard fire truck, complete with custom Hillyard-themed vinyl decals.  His reflective decals and truck lettering will be sure to catch the attention of locals in Hillyard and throughout Spokane.

“The customer designed his own vectored logos.  His custom designed shield has a Hillyard pirate for Roger Pirates and a four leaf clover for St. Pat’s Elementary School.  The HHR-1 stands for Hillyard Hell Raisers,” Signs for Success designer Will Oakley said.  “Scott realized there’s not a lot of money in restoring a fire truck, so we went with an intermediate reflective vinyl to save on costs.”

Vinyl Decals Hillyard are a cost-effective way to incorporate vehicle graphics into an advertising plan.  They use little vinyl which cuts printing and installation costs.  Another cost-effective option in vehicle graphics is a partial coverage vehicle wrap.  Our designers seamlessly transition graphics into your existing paint job, so it has the impact of a full wrap, but uses a fraction of the vinyl material.

When putting together decal designs or a vehicle wrap design, vector graphics are easy to work with.  Vectored logos, like the ones Scott created for his fire truck, use points and lines to define images, rather than pixels.  This makes it easy to manipulate dimensions without distorting the image.

The engineer grade reflective vinyl with 3M UV laminate will last several years and be a hit at the shows and parades Scott plans to bring his fire truck to.  Reflective vinyl is also great for emergency vehicle lettering, government vehicle lettering, construction signs, parking signs, and other indoor and outdoor safety signs.  With much of the design work already done by the customer and simple installation, these fire truck decals were a quick and fun project for everyone involved.  Contact Signs for Success for a free quote on vinyl decals Hillyard!

Dimensional Letters and Logos Donor Wall

2nd Harvest custom wallpaper and laser cut dimensional letters

Many non-profit companies rely heavily on support from generous sponsors and individuals to make their organizations a success.  What better way to acknowledge the magnanimous donor than a position on a donor wall?  We recently had the opportunity to work with Heidi Moll from Quinn Group Advertising & Marketing to produce their design for two donor walls at 2nd Harvest’s new Volunteer lounge.  This was a fun project that incorporated many mediums, including dimensional letters and custom wallpaper, to accomplish the desired effect.

Custom Wallpaper

The backgrounds of each donor wall were printed on Type II commercial wall paper.  There are many textures available, from smooth to textured, but we went with Nassau Dunes which has a light pebble texture.

2nd Harvest Pasco & Spokane added these wallpaper murals with dimensional letters and framing to their waiting room areas, by Signs for Success, dimensional letters Spokane

Dimensional Letters Spokane

The white dimensional letters are 1/4″ cut acrylic letters. The gold dimensional letters and wheat stalks are 1/2″ black PVC plastic with a gold metal laminate.  The Chemetal line offers a huge variety of metal finishes, including the popular polished or brushed gold or silver, allowing for a truly unique look. Plume Goldenrod was the finish chosen to enhance the wheat stock effect. We finished off the donor walls with oak trim stained a deep mahogany brown that really finished off the whole project.  In time the open areas will be filled with brass plaques with capital budget sponsors who help this worthwhile non-profit complete its mission.

We look forward to working with Quinn Group and 2nd Harvest on future projects.
