Mainstream Electric needed a quick turnaround on four identical Ford Transit van wraps. The vans were needed in an upcoming commercial shoot, so we printed and installed all four wraps within a few days of each other.
The van graphics were created by a national design company and sent to us for printing and installation. “We did some color testing for the bright yellow and blue radiant,” Signs for Success designer Will Oakley said. “Blues can be tough to print; we needed to make sure it was blue, not purple. That’s always the hardest thing [about artwork created by someone else]—seeing what’s on the computer screen and determining what it’s supposed to look like.” In order to achieve perfect color, we printed proofs and sent them to the customer for approval before printing the van wraps.
“Ford Transits have really deep channels and contours, so we use Avery film,” Will explained. The best advice we can give when it comes to installing Ford Transit van wraps is to use highly conformable vinyl. Avery wrapping film conforms up to 150% of its original size, which means it can stretch into deeper channels without popping back out. Other high performance films only stretch up to 125%, and overstretching the vinyl can cause discoloration or “popping out.” The design was printed on Avery wrapping film with Avery laminate. Our Avery Certified wrap installers heated the film to 180 degrees which takes the memory out of the film and allows it to stay molded into all the deep recesses.
