Single-sided vs. Double-sided

We can digitally print one or both sides of your banner.  If your banner might be seen from both sides, a double-sided banner is best. We use a special light-blocking banner material that prevents the graphic on one side from showing through to the other side.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Banners

Whether a banner will work indoors or outdoors is really a question of material.  Any of our banner materials are suitable for indoor use.  These include 13oz scrim, 18oz blockout vinyl, 15oz super smooth, mesh banner material, and printable fabrics.  Depending on the installation, location, and longevity required we can help specify the proper material to meet your needs. Welding a hem on a banner is cleaner and stronger than sewing

Banner Hems

Which is better, a welded hem, or a sewn hem?  At Signs for Success, there’s no question in our minds: we use welded banner hems every time!  With our Miller WeldMaster T-300 Extreme, our welded banner hems offer stronger banners with a cleaner look. Sewn hems create tiny holes (perforations) in the material that have a tendency to tear in high wind or over time, but sewing is definitely an option in some cases where special banner finishing is required.

Using hot wedge technology to weld our banner edges, the two surfaces of the hem are heated to over 325° centigrade, melting the vinyl.  The material is then drawn through pressure rollers to complete the fusion process.  Because a sewn hem creates a perforation in the fabric, banners with sewn hems are more prone to failure.  With a welded hem, the material remains intact and is strengthened by the double layer on all edges.

Not only are welded banner hems stronger, but they look better, too.  Say goodbye to clashing thread stitched through beautiful digital prints!

Pole Pockets

Grommets are the standard method of mounting a banner, but pole pockets are a great alternative for boulevard banners, parade banners, pole banners, street banners, and tradeshow banners.  Pole banner hardware can be purchased separately.  We recommend the spring-loaded poles because they increase the life of your banner because they are flexible in the wind. No banner is perfect, but with welded hems and spring-loaded poles, the banners last a lot longer.  See test with spring-loaded poles on a windy day.

Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Canvas prints can be gallery wrapped on wooden stretcher bars for a custom wall hanging. Signs for Success offers design services to finish the print onto the wrapped edges, or add a complementary border color for the edges, or you can fade the image at the edges and leave white.  Whether we use the VC canvas with it’s natural color, or the Picasso Canvas, with its brighter white, the Gallery Wrapped canvases look great. We add sawtooth hangers to the back for easy hanging.

Banner welding is stronger than sewing

The industry standard for banner finishing is a 1″ hem with grommets approximately every 2 feet.  We can add pole pockets, reinforcements, extra grommets, or specifically placed grommets to your custom banner.

Banner taping using double-sided banner tape to finish the edges is also an option; however, this is best for short-term use only.

A welded hem is the standard finishing method we use for banners because welded hems and welded pole pockets are strong, long-term, and outdoor-durable.  Signs for Success has the only banner welder in Spokane.

“For us, it is a big investment, but it gives us a finished product that no one else in our market can produce,” owner John Bogensberger said about the WeldMaster.  “Producing great color on digitally printed banners is the norm these days.  Preserving the appearance and making it stronger at the same time gives us a distinct market advantage,” he added.
